Summary
Catalonia has historically been a region of trade, located on one of the main transport routes in southern Europe and open to shipping routes. After a long period of crisis, Catalonia began its industrialisation in the 19th century, kicking off a time of economic expansion and modernisation that laid the groundwork for the territorial model of modern Catalonia.
